Today could have been Whitney Houston's 60th birthday. To celebrate her voice and legacy, I'm sharing some of my mashups of her songs. This week's pick is Earth, Wind & Fire x Whitney Houston - Million Dollar Groove (Shigeki Mashup).
Million Dollar Bill (2009) was a smash hit from her last studio album I Look To You (2009). It was highly anticipated as her comeback album after her divorce from Bobby Brown and battles with substances. I personally loved the album and thought her huskier vocals suited the songs. They were the final gifts from her that we will cherish for many more years to come.
I had the honor and pleasure of deejaying for the Singapore official album launch party at Stereolab and it was very exciting to receive the advanced copies of the album and the remixes of Million Dollar Bill. The Freemasons Mix was the one I played the most when it came out, but over the years I became more inclined to play the Frankie Knuckles Director's Cut.
I made this mashup at the end of 2009 and have fond memories of playing it in my sets at Rewind Bar in Singapore. I used both the Frankie Knuckles and the Warren Riggs mixes and mashed them with the Restless Soul Inspirational Information Remix of Earth, Wind & Fire's classic, Let's Groove (1981). I have pitched it down slightly and remastered it for my upcoming Shigeki's Maximix Whitney. Thanks for listening. 🌸🚀❤️
