This week I'm sharing another mashup I did for my Sydney WorldPride sets.
Lykke Li x Miley Cyrus - I Follow Flowers (Shigeki WP2023 Mashup)
I have always liked dance remixes of indie emo songs. The original versions are usually mellow and they evoke emotions, so you need to choose the right moment to listen to them. I like to listen when I'm feeling run down or emotional and hearing these songs can amplify the feels, calm me down or even heal me. However, a good dance remix can energize you AND you get the feels, so it's 'kill two birds with one stone'. I Follow Rivers (2011) is one of these songs. The other indie artists I, I follow are Robyn and John Grant. His album Pale Green Ghost (2013) healed me that year.
Flowers needs no introduction. When it came out in January, it was drawing a lot of comparisons to Gloria Gaynor’s iconic classic I Will Survive (1978). The mashup of the two songs popped up and I thought it was clever. For my mashup I thought the song would work well with indie dance sound so I decided to use the Magician Remix of I Follow Rivers as the background track. It's a very quick mashup - I did the dry piano riffs similar to the one you hear in the remix and added some hi-hats here and there. Flowers was without a doubt one of the songs that got overplayed during WorldPride, so I only played it once as the last song in one of my sets. Hope you like it. 🌸🚀
