sg013: Akina Nakamori - Dainanakan (Septième Sens) (Shigeki Rework)

Welcome to my music blog, sakura galactic mixes! In this blog I will be sharing my mashups and mixes from the past 20 plus years with little stories behind them.

Today I'm sharing an edit of a song by Akina Nakamori on her 58th birthday. Akina Nakamori - Dainanakan (Septième Sens) (Shigeki Rework)

The music taste in my childhood was heavily influenced by what my brother and sister were listening to at the time. I watched Japanese music programs and weekly countdown shows on TV and used to record my favorite songs from radio on cassettes. Momoe Yamaguchi was my favorite singer in the 70's and I had a few of her singles and collected her albums much later, which deepened my appreciation for her as an artist.

During the 80's I was a huge fan of Akina Nakamori. She was one of the greatest pop singers of her generation and many of her singles topped the charts. I collected all her singles and albums on vinyl and CDs and everything that had her on it. The first single I bought of her was 'Second Love' (1982), and the first CD was 'Memoire' (1983). Not only she was an incredible singer, but she also kept re-inventing her image and sound.

I went to a local amusement park with my grandmother to catch her mini concert at the age of 14. When I was in high school, I bought many Meiji chocolate bars to win that golden ticket to catch her 'free' concert at Nagoya Rainbow Hall, because I wasn't allowed to go to real concerts. I won a ticket and went to the concert alone. I was such a happy boy that day.

Due to prolonged health issues she hasn't performed in public or released new music for a long time. Last year her former label re-issued her studio albums from the 80's with bonus materials to commemorate her 40th anniversary in music business, so I have been collecting and listening to them to take a trip down the memory lane.

I've always wanted to rework her songs and I decided to do this song from her second album Variation (1982). It was neither released as a single nor my favorite song at the time, but it has grown on me over recent years and I love it. I gave it a retro update with 808-inspired drums. My goal is to do an extended DJ mix with my edits of her songs, so this is just the beginning. Thanks for listening. 🌸🚀❤️
