Kicking off the blog is a mashup that I did for Mardi Gras Laneway in 2022.
Sister Sledge x Whitney Houston - Thinking of Your Baby Tonight (Laneway 2022 Mashup)
This mashup was originally made in 2021. I used the great Dimitri From Paris remix of Thinking of You and the Whit-A-Pella of I'm Your Baby Tonight, and the tempo was at 110bpm - closer to the original songs. When I was planning for my Laneway set, I thought this might work as a faster house track and it worked. Normally I wouldn't speed up a song so drastically - from 110bpm to 123bpm!! - because it would sound like a chipmunk, but luckily that wasn't the case for this song. It was fun to remix my mashup.
After all, I didn't get to play at Laneway because I flew to Sydney and tested positive for Covid-19 two days before the gig. I had to isolate for seven days and miss the whole Mardi Gras weekend, which was really bad luck but I consider myself lucky as my symptoms were relatively mild. While in isolation I recorded the set I had planned for Laneway and shared it as a recovery mix on my mixcloud. There will be more Whitney mashups and edits coming up as she is my all-time favorite singer in the whole galaxy!
